Welcome!Owner & baker Jennifer Kennard...

The Village Bakery, located in the cozy village of Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia, was established in August 1998.

Our shop is open Tuesday through Sunday 10:00am to  4:00pm, from April until Christmas.  During the winter months we are open weekends 10:00am to 4:00pm.

Last fall we planted a border garden of perennial grasses and flowers to the right of the bakery off the parking lot. This year as it blooms and grows we'll put a picnic bench out close to the garden for you to sit on and enjoy.

There are also picnic benches out at the head of the MacInnis Trail (to the left of the bakery, which we donated).

We're also now selling juices & water plus coffee & tea and bakery treats so that you can enjoy a little refreshment whilst sitting outside or hiking the trial.

Withrow’s Farm Markets are now open again for the season and we'll be there with baked goods one more. And you can always purchase our products year round at Pete’s Frootique in both Halifax and Bedford.

Cookies

Cookies are made daily in small batches, using fine ingredients such as 'pure dark chocolate chips', 'fancy molasses', 'pure Ruby Red cocoa', ginger & cinnamon.

Two favourite cookies are Mud Cookies and the Ingonish Oatcake. Mud Cookies are sweet, chocolaty and full of oats and coconut.

The oatcakes are made in the traditional way with oats, lard, flour, sugar and water.  It's mixed and then rolled & cut out, and baked until golden. They are great served with jam, cheese or peanut butter, or just as they are!

At Christmas we even dip the oatcakes in pure melted chocolate for an extra treat. The large chocolate dipped oatcakes are also sold at the Pete's Frootique in Bedford and are very popular!

Pies & Tarts

We make our butter tarts using a ready made tart shell, and then fill them with raisins, pecans or just plain butter tart mixture.

We also make Cape Breton Pork Pies. These actually have no pork, but are filled with dates and topped with maple frosting. They are a traditional Christmas treat in Cape Breton.

All our fruit pies are made at Apple Valley, Kentville (creator of the famous Sarsfield Pie), in the heart of the Annapolis Valley.  Only premium grade Valley fruit is used, supplied direct from local farmers. The pies are flash frozen for maximum freshness and are then rushed to Shubenacadie where we bake 'em up fresh for you every day.

We also make our own Lemon & Coconut Cream pies, and can even be persuaded to make butterscotch or banana on request!

The cakes come in both chocolate and white, they are a two-layer seven inch round cake and are frosted with white or chocolate icing, with strawberry jam between the layers.

We also make a tasty Carrot Cake with cream cheese frosting for $6.25
