Spring Opening Delayed on account of the Winter!

The Village Bakery is currently The Village-Bakery-Buried, and difficulties with access and supply deliveries will be delaying our annual spring re-opening until April 7

We hope this does not inconvenience our faithful customers too much and look forward to seeing you all soon!

Our fans can count on all their favourite baked goods & meals being available as usual once we re-open, and of course we'll also be providing Withrow's Farm Markets in Mt. Uniacke & Belnan with our baked goods once they also reopen in April.

Welcome to Village Bakery!

Besides our baked goods, we serve hold & cold beverages, soups, sandwiches, hearty sides, & desserts, made fresh on-site daily.  Enjoy a hot or cold lunch five days a week in our cozy cafe setting; browse our menu!  We welcome diners Tuesdays to Saturdays, from 11:00am to 2:00pm.

About Us...

The Village Bakery, located in the historic village of Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia, was established in August 1998 by owner/operator Jennifer Kennard.  Our shop is open Tuesday through Saturday 9:30am to 4:00pm, from March until Christmas.

Come and have a cup of coffee or tea with a muffin or cinnamon roll, sit a spell and enjoy the baking smells!

Year-round, visitors may enjoy a hike up the MacInnis Trail to the left of the bakery; all are welcome to use our donated picnic benches at the trail head.

We also sell juices & water, plus coffee & tea and bakery treats so that you can enjoy a little refreshment whilst hiking the trial.

You can also find our baked goods at Withrow’s Farm Markets - at the Belnan & Mt. Uniacke Branchs from spring to late fall.

Pies & Tarts

Tarts - We make our butter tarts using a ready-made tart shell, and then fill them with raisins, pecans or just plain butter tart mixture.

We also make Cape Breton Pork Pies. These actually have no pork, but are filled with dates and topped with maple frosting. They are a traditional Christmas treat in Cape Breton.

All our fruit pies are made by Apple Valley, Kentville (creator of the famous Sarsfield Pie), in the heart of the Annapolis Valley.  Only premium grade Valley fruit is used, supplied direct from local farmers. The pies are flash frozen for maximum freshness and are then rushed to Shubenacadie where we bake 'em up fresh for you every day.

Pies by Apple Valley $5.50 each;  Apple, Blueberry, Mincemeat, Mixed Fruit or Rhubarb Strawberry Pies made by us to order.  We also make our own Lemon & Coconut Cream pies from scratch at the bakery, and can even be persuaded to make butterscotch or banana on request!
